Summer in the Hamptons means many social and fundraising events.

Summer in the Hamptons means many social and fundraising events. Many of the NYC things to do that take place during the summer are sports-related, but few are as prestigious as the Hampton Classic. This horse show takes place on 65-acres in a beautiful setting near beaches and high-end shopping venues. Horse enthusiasts flock to this NYC event, which is one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the country.

For more than 30 years, the Hampton Classic has been a must-attend event for the elite equestrian crowd. Events for all ages are held during the week-long event. The Hampton Classic also has the distinction of being the 2nd horse show to be named a Heritage Competition by the U.S. Equestrian Federation. This is a prestigious designation that really sets the Hampton Classic apart from most other horse shows.

The NYC event hosts the finals for the Young Jumper Championships, and it is the first leg of the East Coast World Cup League. Some of the best competitors in the country can be seen at the Hampton Classic. Celebrity sightings are common here, as celebs who summer in the Hamptons frequently attend the exciting competitions.

Coming from out of town for the Hampton Classic? Why not spend a night in the city at the Quin – an NY hotel before heading to the Hamptons to enjoy all or part of the Hampton Classic?

Family-friendly activities and events designed to encourage an interest in horsemanship in children are also part of the Hampton Classic. Tickets are $10 daily. Tickets can be reserved in advance or purchased onsite.

Guests at our Central Park hotel often comment on the many fabulous NYC restaurants located nearby. Those who visit in July and August can sample some of the city’s very best dining spots at greatly reduced prices thanks to Restaurant Week.

This NYC event is a bit misleading as it (fortunately for us) lasts for 4 consecutive weeks, but no one is complaining about that! Some of the best NYC restaurants participate, and diners have the opportunity to enjoy a prix fixe dinner at an unbelievable price. All of the participating restaurants offer lunch for $25. Dinner is priced at $38. Please note that not all of the restaurants will offer dinner.

Some of the NYC restaurants that have participated in the past include Circus NYC, 21 Club, Nobu, and Cecil. Keep checking for updated lists of the restaurants that will be participating in 2014 Restaurant Week. Diners need to make reservations at the restaurants of their choice. It is highly unlikely that the popular dining spots will be able to service walk-ins during Restaurant Week. Make reservations at your top choices as soon as possible or ask the Attaché to secure your table.

Shopping is one of the favorite things to do in NY, and today’s visitors can choose from thousands of retail stores, shops, and boutiques. Had you been a guest at an NYC hotel at the turn of the century, you could have visited Hester Street where the city’s largest pushcart marketplace was set up to sell food, clothing, home goods, and more.

Today, the Hester Street Fair serves as a reminder of the outdoor market that thrived here so long ago and gives local vendors a chance to showcase their goods to the thousands of visitors who come to the Hester Street Fair each weekend.

The outdoor marketplace is buzzing with activity, and both locals and guests at Central Park hotels love to spend a couple of hours at this New York attraction. Dozens of vendors sell artisanal food, vintage clothing, art, jewelry, crafts, home goods, and much more.

The Quin hotel is located near many top things to do in NY. Consider a visit to the Hester Street Fair during your next stay at our Central Park hotel.

Hester Street Fair is a pleasant change from the many other spots to enjoy New York Shopping. One-of-a-kind treasures can be found up and down the street along with plenty of ways to satisfy your hunger. Enjoy a lobster roll, a seemingly endless selection of baked goods, and many other delicious choices.

At once historic and modern, don’t miss the chance to visit this New York attraction. Hester Street Fair is a place everyone should visit at least once, but most will want to come back again and again to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the goods offered by the vendors who line the street.

Super Saturday Party in Central Park - an NY event
Super Saturday
June 26th, 2014 (All day)

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund is the largest organization of its kind, and raising money is crucial to their mission.

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund is the largest organization of its kind, and raising money is crucial to their mission. The 2013 Super Saturday event raised more than $3.5 million dollars for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, and organizers of the event are hoping to raise even more this year.

Super Saturday is an NY event that’s one of the more popular NY things to do and takes place in the Hamptons. Hosted by Kelly Ripa and one of the event’s founders, Donna Karan, this NY event is a chance to shop and socialize while raising money for a most worthy cause.

A long list of top designers will donate goods that will then be sold for between 30% and 50% off of the retail prices. This Designer Garage Sale features clothing for the whole family along with accessories, home goods, and other items.

Super Saturday attendees can also enjoy spa treatments and fun activities for children. Food and drinks will be available throughout the event and are included in the ticket price. Tickets start at $450 for adults and $150 for children. Children under 5 are admitted for free. Tables start at $2,500. Attendees who purchase tables will enjoy perks such as VIP parking passes and a special preview of the sale.

This is the 17th year for this NY event. During the first year, $200,000 was raised. Organizers are hoping that 2014 will be a record year, and that more than $4 million will be raised to assist in finding a cure for ovarian cancer.

Tickets can be purchased on the event’s website or through the Attaché. Tickets are limited, so those who want to attend should reserve their tickets or tables as soon as possible.

Shopping is a very popular thing to do in NYC.

Shopping is a very popular thing to do in NYC. Guests at New York City hotels may envision days spent browsing racks of designer goods or visiting the unique boutiques that dot certain neighborhoods. What many may not picture is spending the day at a flea market, but the Brooklyn Flea is a unique sight to see.

This New York attraction is an open-air market where more than 250 vendors sell antiques, vintage clothing, bicycles, furniture, and just about anything else you can imagine. This popular New York attraction has earned the attention of several publications and has been named to the “Best Of” lists for markets in the United States. Travel + Leisure and Country Living are two of the magazines that herald Brooklyn Flea as a not-to-be-missed attraction.

Along with the typical flea market finds, such as vintage toys or hard-to-find collectibles, visitors to the Brooklyn Flea may also find handmade jewelry, unique artwork, repurposed furniture, and other treasures. It might take you all day to explore all of the offerings, but you can stop by one of the food stands to “fuel the search” and enjoy a snack between browsing.

Spend a day treasure hunting at this New York attraction during your next stay at our New York City hotel. Brooklyn Flea opened for the year in April, and the last day for the 2014 season will be November 23rd.

In 1968, photographer Bill Cunningham embarked on an eight-year project to document the architectural riches and fashion history of New York City. Scouring the city’s thrift stores, auction houses, and street fairs for vintage clothing, and scouting sites on his bicycle, Cunningham generated a photographic essay entitled Facades, which paired models—in particular his muse, fellow photographer Editta Sherman—in period costumes with historic settings.

Although by turns whimsical and bold, Cunningham’s project also was part of the larger cultural zeitgeist in New York City, during an era in which issues surrounding both the preservation and the problems of the urban landscape loomed large. The photographer donated 88 silver gelatin prints from the series to the New-York Historical Society in 1976, and now, almost four decades later, Cunningham’s work will be reconsidered in a show that will highlight the historical perspective the photographs suggest—not just of the distant past, but of the particular time in which they were created.

The 2014 Whitney Biennial will take a bold new form as three curators from outside the Museum—Stuart Comer (Chief Curator of Media and Performance Art at MoMA), Anthony Elms (Associate Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia), and Michelle Grabner (artist and Professor in the Painting and Drawing Department at the School of the Art Institute, Chicago)—each oversee one floor, representing a range of geographic vantages and curatorial methodologies.

Donna De Salvo, Chief Curator and Deputy Director for Programs at the Whitney, noted: “The 2014 Biennial brings together the findings of three curators with very distinct points of view. There is little overlap in the artists they have selected and yet there is common ground. This can be seen in their choice of artists working in interdisciplinary ways, artists working collectively, and artists from a variety of generations. Together, the 103 participants offer one of the broadest and most diverse takes on art in the United States that the Whitney has offered in many years.”

This Biennial will be the last to take place in the Whitney Museum of American Art’s building at 945 Madison Avenue at 75th Street before the Museum moves downtown to its new building in the spring of 2015. This is the 77th in the Museum’s ongoing series of Annuals and Biennials begun in 1932 by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney.

Whitney curators Elisabeth Sussman and Jay Sanders, who organized the widely acclaimed 2012 Biennial, will advise on the exhibition.

Fifty years ago The Beatles came to America. On Friday, February 7, 1964, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr arrived from the U.K. at the newly-named John F. Kennedy International Airport. With cameras flashing and reporters jostling, they were whisked into Manhattan amid the screams, shouts and tears of New York area teens, braving the cold for a mere glimpse of the band. Then, that Sunday, the veritable king of the television variety show, Ed Sullivan, introduced them to a captivated American audience of more than 73 million viewers—at the time a television record. And just like that Beatlemania was upon us.

Ladies and Gentlemen…The Beatles! brings us back to the early ‘60s when rock & roll was re-energized—some say saved—by four lads from Liverpool. The exhibition covers the period from early 1964 through mid-1966—the years Beatlemania ran rampant in America. During this time the band affected nearly every aspect of pop culture, including fashion, art, advertising, media, and, of course, music. On display are many Beatles-related pop culture artifacts from the period, as well as correspondence, instruments, posters, photographs, interviews, interactive displays, and an oral history booth in which visitors can leave their own impressions of The Beatles.

Created by The GRAMMY Museum® at L.A. LIVE and Fab Four Exhibits, Ladies and Gentlemen…The Beatles! provides fresh new insight into how and why The Beatles impacted America in the 1960s—and beyond.

Now through May 10, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center

Mon, Thu noon–8 p.m.; Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat Noon–6 p.m.

American Modern: Hopper to O'Keeffe at MoMA is curated from the museum’s permanent collection and seeks to take a fresh look at American art created between 1915 and 1950.

As you know, American society was undergoing a dramatic and rapid amount of change in the early 20th century. American Modern is a thoughtful study of the period’s cultural preoccupations. It’s also an attempt to prove that the Modern recognized the contributions of American artists during its earliest years.

The show includes paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, and sculptures and is organized thematically—from urban and rural landscapes, still-life compositions, portraitures, and to images of industry. 49 artists are represented, all born from 1870 to 1917, including Georgia O’Keeffe, Alfred Steiglitz, Edward Hopper, and Andrew Wyeth.

Attaché Tip: Don’t miss O’Keeffe’s classic “Farmhouse Window and Door” outside the exhibition’s entrance.
